What You Will Do

You will contribute directly to the design, testing, and characterization of our TDT based soil moisture sensors and electronic subsystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Assistance: Support senior engineers with analysis and design of digital and analog circuits for sensor prototypes

  • PCB Development: Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout while applying DFM and signal integrity best practices

  • Embedded Software: Help develop, test, and debug embedded C firmware for sensor operation and data acquisition

  • Testing and Validation: Perform detailed laboratory testing and help characterize sensor accuracy and reliability

  • Equipment Operation: Use DMMs, oscilloscopes, and power supplies to troubleshoot circuits and verify design parameters

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Process and interpret sensor datasets, and contribute to technical reports and insights

  • Documentation: Maintain clear and detailed records of designs, test procedures, and experimental results

Necessary Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Co-op program for Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (ideally 4th year with prior engineering experience)

  • Familiarity or experience with:
    • Digital and analog circuit design and basic simulation tools
    • Embedded C programming for microcontrollers
    • Using DMMs, DSOs, and standard lab equipment
    • Data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or Excel
    • Schematic capture and PCB layout for prototype development

Desired Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Clear written and verbal communication

  • Ability to work independently and within a small team

  • Interest in environmental sensing, agriculture technology, or electronics development

Ideal Fit: A 4th year Electrical Engineering or similar program student with hands-on lab, firmware, or hardware experience.

Eligibility

This position is subsidized through ICTC’s WIL Digital Program. Students must meet the following requirements:

  • Canadian citizen

  • Permanent resident

  • A protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

AND

  • Must be registered at a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution

  • Students on work visas or study permits are not eligible.
